SUMMARY:
As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Southeast Asia you will lead the New Products Development executed at our local manufacturing partners and day-to-day manage the Vietnam and Cambodia SBC manufacturing engineering team.
You will be responsible for working directly with Design Engineers, Quality, Testing, Product Managers and Supply Chain to ensure alloy and composite NPD project goals are met and delivered on time.
Your overarching goal will be to provide mentorship of the team, driving growth in technical knowledge and local leadership, ensuring projects deliver on time, at the right quality and meet all performance targets.
This position is based in the Specialized Innovation Center of Ho Chi Minh City. You’ll be working with a growing team of 25+ local and foreign people dedicated to developing and maintaining quality of the Specialized Bicycles products in Southeast Asia.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Manage manufacturing engineering team in Vietnam and Cambodia. Responsibilities include leading goal setting process and performing on time yearly reviews, resolution of all personnel issues, and creation and execution of development plans for each team member to ensure future growth of the organization. Manage NPD projects in SEA including resource planning, leading design for manufacturing reviews, assist in supplier selection and project problem resolution.
As a team leader you will ensure alloy and composite projects are correctly engineered, drawn, documented, tooled, lab tested & field tested for production according to Specialized requirements. You will contribute as needed to improvement of our standards.
Communicate clearly and regularly with global teams on progress of projects. Conduct regular video conference meetings, with global teams, for project status and design reviews.
Collaborate with the Manufacturing Engineering Director to achieve long-term growth objectives. This includes personnel recruitment and development, new supplier audits and continuous improvement with current partners. Lead internal continuous improvement projects as assigned. Work with global Engineering and Quality management teams on approved projects including ground up development, implementation of new manufacturing technologies, cost reductions, line extensions and process improvements. Hold all team members accountable for proper documentation and good engineering practices through use of our PLM system and NPI process. Plan and maintain yearly budget for facility including operating expenses, capital equipment purchases and consumables ensuring development costs stay within planned budget. Work with the Manufacturing Engineering Director to plan SEA team compensation packages based on performance assessment’s of team.
what you’ll need to win:
- College degree in technical subjects (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing).
- Minimum 8 years practical engineering experience with 3 years applied experience in Composite or Aluminum manufacturing including:
- Understanding of composite analysis.
- Experience in preforming, molding, bonding & machining of composites.
- Ability to interpret test results and suggest solutions if parts don’t meet requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot if the problem is in shape, laminate design, molding.
- Forging, sheet metal stamping and CNC machining of aluminum
- Tube forming and bending processes
- Welding, brazing, heat treatment and machining of aluminum alloys
- Minimum 1 year of engineering management.
- Requires the ability to read and understand engineering drawings including GD&T.
- Ability to use measuring instruments.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Pro/E and AutoCAD.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with in-house staff and vendors.
- Communication in English verbal &/or written language is required with Vietnamese and Chinese language skills a plus.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities with limited supervision.
- This position requires full-time residency in Vietnam with regular travel to Cambodia, China and Taiwan. Must be able to travel to USA as needed.
