The Position
An innovative Mechanical Engineer is sought to join the OPSWAT team. The role involves designing, developing, and implementing mechanical systems and products, contributing to projects from concept to completion through means of 3D printing, metal works, and custom fabrication.
What You Will be Doing
Key responsibilities include designing and developing mechanical systems and components that meet performance, safety, and efficiency standards. The role requires using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for modeling and drawings for computer enclosures, racks, and IT infrastructures. It also requires performing calculations and analyses to validate designs. Building and testing prototypes are required as well. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential for translating design concepts into manufacturable systems.
- Develop and implement robust thermal management solutions, including airflow optimization and heat sink integration, within enclosures.
- Analyze and improve existing mechanical systems.
- Conduct tests and identify potential issues.
- Prepare technical documentation.
- Manage project timelines and milestones.
- Design and optimize computer enclosure structures using advanced CAD software.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, product management, and manufacturing, to ensure design feasibility and optimal performance.
- Conduct rapid prototyping and testing of enclosure designs, evaluating performance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensure designs adhere to industry standards and safety regulations (e.g., FCC Part 15, EN 55032, UL/IEC/EN 62368-1).
- Stay current with industry technologies.
What We Need from You
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer or in a related field.
- Firm grasp of engineering concepts and experience designing mechanical systems and products.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with a specific computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting (CADD) software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360)
It Would be Nice if You Had
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the Computer Sciences industry.
- Experience with product life cycle management.
- Experience in electronics or PCB-related mechanical designs and electrical requirements.
- Experience finite element analysis (FEA) to assess thermal, structural, and vibration characteristics of designs.
- Experience with material selection for mechanical components and systems based on strength, durability, cost, manufacturability, and environmental performance including metals, composites, polymers.
