The Principal QA Engineer is accountable for overseeing the quality assurance process across all assigned projects. This includes not only personally reviewing requirements, creating comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test data, but also ensuring that all team members consistently produce detailed and thorough documentation. The Principal QA Engineer will actively collaborate with the software development team to document issues, track resolutions, and maintain up-to-date documentation. Strong communication and coordination with the QA/Development Manager and Development teams are essential, as is providing guidance and support to the QA team to uphold high standards in test coverage and documentation quality.
Essential Duties:
- Develop and enforce QA policies, standards, and best practices across all teams and platforms.
- Implement quality KPIs and measure performance using metrics such as defect leakage, test coverage, and cycle time.
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing QA team across functional, automation, and performance domains.
- Conduct career development planning, performance reviews, and succession planning.
- Lead training programs to upskill teams on new tools, methodologies, and platforms
- Own the design and implementation of automation frameworks across Web, Mobile, and API layers.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, DevOps, and Support teams to ensure product quality.
- Act as an escalation point for quality risks and issues during delivery.
- Define and oversee the end-to-end test strategy: unit, integration, system, UAT, and regression testing.
- Manage defect lifecycle with clear prioritization, ownership, and resolution SLAs
- Drive adoption of AI/ML and data analytics in testing for predictive quality insights.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
- 10 years’ experience in enterprise software development and testing, including 3 years of people management experience, to include:
- Experience testing web-based applications and relational databases
- Experience with acceptance testing, integration testing and performance testing
- Experience with automation tools such as Selenium, Jenkins, etc.
- Strong test planning experience
- Strong initiative, innovation, organization, and attention to detail are essential
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify, recommend, and implement improvements to team structure and workflows, resulting in measurable increases in product or service quality.
- Demonstrates a strong dedication to delivering high-quality products while consistently providing excellent customer service and maintaining positive client relations.
- Experience collaborating with others in QA/Development to deliver shared results
- Well organized, self-motivated individual who can work with little or no direction
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff and upper management in both business and technical areas
- Experience with E-Commerce and Retail would be desirable although not mandatory
