AOI Engineer - Automated Optical Inspection

Job Purpose:

AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining automated inspection systems used in manufacturing, particularly in electronics and PCB assembly. They focus on ensuring high quality by detecting defects like misaligned components, soldering issues, and other quality problems using specialized AOI equipment.

Responsibilities:

AOI Program Development and Setup:

• Creating AOI inspection programs for new products (NPI).
• Optimizing inspection parameters (focus, lighting, thresholds).
• Building and maintaining the component library.
• Analyzing and minimizing false positives.
• Optimizing image processing and detection algorithms.
• Integrating 3D AOI

- Ensuring compliance with IPC standards (IPC-A-610)

• Training machine operators on AOI system usage.
• Writing user manuals and training materials.
• Working with quality, process, test, and SMT engineers.
• Supporting cross-departmental issue resolution.
• Supporting automation, traceability, and data-driven manufacturing initiatives
• Supporting internal, external audits.

Inspection Results Analysis:

• Classifying defects (true defects vs false calls).
• Identifying root causes of defects (in cooperation with process and quality engineers).
• Building defect statistics (e.g. Pareto charts.)

Regular updates on key quality metrics - FTT%

• Trend analysis using tools like Excel, Power BI
• AOI Equipment Maintenance:
• Daily equipment status checks.
• Performing preventive maintenance.
• Supporting repairs, calibration, and hardware upgrades.
• Developing test methods to access AOI effectiveness

Yêu cầu công việc:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electric/ Mechanical or an equivalent combination of training, certification(s) and SMT experience.

- Understanding of SMT and PCBA processes - іoldering principles, component placement, reflow profiles

- Knowledge of AOI technology - 2D and 3D AOI systems

• Working principles of camera-based inspection
• Familiarity with AOI equipment/software

- Industry standard IPC-A-610 knowledge (certification is not mandatory)

- Basic electronics knowledge - component identification (resistors, capacitors, ICs, polarity, orientation)

Image processing basics (a plus) - contrast, lighting, edge detection, pattern recognition

• Understanding of optics, mechanical alignment, sensors
