Fresh Studio is the leading food consulting and R&D firm in Vietnam and Myanmar. Our mission is to make our clients successful in the sustainable production and marketing of food. To further increase our positive impact on the agriculture sector of Vietnam, we are looking for a VCD project leader to be based in our Ho Chi Minh City office, with regular travel in the Mekong Delta for field work and regularly visiting our FS office in Myanmar.
Exciting opportunity
As a Value Chain Development (VCD) project manager, your main responsibility will be to manage one of our VCD projects in Vietnam. You will support our client in the management of the project, implement the project monitoring and evaluation system and ensure that all the planned activities are executed successfully. You will inspire the project partners and chain actors to implement the project activities and are responsible for project communication, including the reporting to our clients. Besides managing this project, you are expected to support our other project teams in Myanmar and Vietnam in various other projects. Occasionally you are expected to support the country managers of Fresh Studio Myanmar and Vietnam with project acquisition and contributing to the further growth and development of Fresh Studio.
The main responsibilities of this position are:
VCD project management
- Manage a multi-disciplinary team to implement a value chain development project in a timely and well -planned manner
- Execute all activities within the planned budget and timeframe
- Manage and support all project partners and value chain actors to ensure that all project deliverables will be achieved
- Communicate clearly the project purposes, activities and outcomes to all internal and external stakeholders involved in various forms: progress reports, project website, project impact video, conference presentations, project brochures etc.
- Set up a project monitoring and reporting system to keep track of the progress of all project activities and make sure all project deliverables are achieved
Consultancy
- Lead various value chain analysis assignments and develop strategic value chain development intervention plans
- Lead sector studies
- Create high quality reports and presentations about executed work.
- Support the country manager in proposal writing for acquisition.
Our dream candidate
The ideal candidate has a strong academic background, such as an MSc in agricultural economics, rural development, or a related field. And brings at least five years of hands-on experience managing agricultural VCD projects.
You have a proven ability to design, implement, and report on both qualitative and quantitative studies, including baseline assessments, M&E studies, and rapid value chain appraisals. These insights have enabled you to successfully lead VCD initiatives that bring chain actors together and create resilient, self-sustaining value chains that continue to grow beyond project timelines. You are results-driven, proactive, and passionate about working in the rural areas of Southeast Asia to create lasting impact. Your project management style is inspirational and detail-oriented, and you thrive in multi-disciplinary teams, contributing your own technical expertise—such as participatory methodologies, farmer extension systems, or farm economics.
With excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, you know how to motivate teams and stakeholders to turn product chains into truly thriving value chains.
Qualifications and skills
- A MSc degree in agriculture economics, development economics or rural development studies
- A minimum of 8 years of work experience, of which at least 3-5 years in a position as a successful project manager of a VCD project
- Work experience in the agri-business sector of Southeast Asia, preferably in Vietnam or Myanmar
- Strong organizing and planning skills, with attention to details
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong communicator who is culturally sensitive
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work independently, while being a team player with a hands-on mentality
- Passion for sustainable food
- Eager to learn, discover and to travel in the field work sites across Vietnam and Myanmar
