JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled Data Catalog Specialist to build, maintain, and enhance our enterprise
data catalog content. This role combines technical expertise in data management with strong
documentation and visualization skills to create a comprehensive, user-friendly data catalog that
enables better data discovery and understanding across the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation of data assets, including tables, fields,
relationships, and business definitions
- Create visual representations of data lineage, data flows, and entity relationships
Design and develop intuitive data maps and diagrams
- Create and update metadata for data warehouse objects, ensuring accuracy and
completeness
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather and
validate data definitions
- Write clear, concise descriptions of data elements, business rules, and data lineage
- Implement and maintain data catalog taxonomies and classification systems
- Perform regular quality assurance reviews of catalog content
- Use SQL queries to validate data relationships and dependencies
- Develop standards and best practices for catalog content creation
- Create visual guides and documentation for end-users
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Library Science, Business Analytics, or
related field, or industry equivalent experience – Required
2. Experience
- 3+ years of experience with SQL and query tools
- Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts and principles
- Proven experience in technical documentation and content creation
- Experience with visualization tools and diagram creation software
- Proficiency in creating data flow diagrams and entity relationship diagrams
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with metadata management and data governance concepts
- Experience with data catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, or similar)
- Proficiency with visualization tools (e.g., Miro, Visio, Draw.io)
- Knowledge of BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker)
- Understanding of data modeling concepts
- Experience with data quality management
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks
- Knowledge of machine learning and advanced analytics concepts
